Jobs in Alternative Energy Fields

For many years people who took jobs in the alternative energies research and development sector had to, at least, in the beginning, take relatively low pay. Those men and women were dedicated to something beyond the money they were making.

They were willing to put their brainpower to the task of researching and developing technologies in the alternative energies sector that might benefit all of humankind. Making the world a better place and not "money" was their goal.

Now society is beginning to catch up with these idealists and the day of the green job has arrived. Now people can follow their dream of aiding their fellow being and work in positions that they can not only enjoy immensely, but receive good money for their time and energy.

Jobs in the alternative energy research and development industry are expanding and experts expect that green jobs will become a important part of the overall economy.

What kind of jobs are needed in this "Green Field?" Green businesses are arising to meet consumers demand for everything from solar panels to environmentally certified building materials. The alternative energy field will need people who can run solar power plants (plant operators and mechanics), developers who are able to create the technology to harness alternative energies (engineers, scientists), and, of course, factory workers, sales forces and entrepreneurs.

And there are many jobs that don't have a title yet. We will need bio-engineers and biologists that can isolate and develop plant farms featuring non-food crops that can be turned into bio-fuels. We will need sailors who can oversee the tidal power plants. Construction workers who will build the next generation of energy-self-suficent homes and shopping malls. The future will have plenty of exciting green work in it.

Investment by public and private entities will make the green job revolution happen. Money talks and many governments are beginning to invest in alternative energy businesses. Private investors, encouraged by the public infusion of cash and bolstered with tax encentives are creating now cottage industries in the green arena.

Rising oil prices make alternative energies more affordable to develop. And politically the government might actually be willing to act on the idea of "homegrown" energy. Expect more support for renewable fuels in the United States. One thing this will mean is jobs researching and developing factories that make ethanol from plant fibers and other biomass.

There is a lot of plant material that is considered to be waste products today These could be turned into bio-fuel instead of being discarded. The Federal Budget is including increased amounts of money to take agricultural waste products such as wood chips, corn stalks, and switch grass and make them into fuels to run our cars.

Due to food demands it is important to swtich to cellulose-based ethanol which is predicted to be cost-competitive by 2012, and eventually replace up to 30% of the nation's current fuel consumption.

Of course, you don't have to be a "farmer" to get a green job. Alternative energy related work includes making the next generation of battery technology for hybrid vehicles. And along with manufacturing these hybrid cars and trucks, a new generation of auto mechanics will be needed to service them. New power stations will need to be built and maintained. Hybrids and other alternative energy cars will create their own alternative energy job sector.

The future for alternative energy jobs and other green jobs looks to be a great one. If you are just starting out on a career or looking for a new one, check out the alternative energy sector. It looks to be one that Will make you lots of green (money), as well as green job satisfaction.
